Abstract:
The end-to-end methodology of moving from material development through the manufacturing process to the finished product enables an integrated design methodology in which material innovation and product development evolve simultaneously. In the integrated material-process product design approach, products can be designed that offer unique selling propositions in terms of performance, cost efficiency, and sustainability. The development of (advanced) materials thus plays a central role in modern product design, enabling improved performance, increased sustainability, and superior functionality. The integration of material digitalization and artificial intelligence accelerates the discovery and optimization of advanced materials by enabling predictive modeling and data-based insights. In the context of E-mobility, these innovations are crucial to create durable and energy-efficient components that meet the highest requirements. This interdisciplinary approach combines materials science, digital tools and AI to transform product development processes and drive sustainable technological advances in motion technology.
Short Bio of Speaker:
Vita: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Hosenfeldt is Senior Vice President and Head of Central Technologies at Schaeffler AG. He studied production engineering at the University of Bremen and then worked as a research engineer at the Leibniz Institute for Material-Oriented Technologies, Bremen in the field of materials science and surface technologies. After receiving his doctorate in engineering from the University of Bremen in 2000, he started at the Schaeffler Group, where he built up and managed coating and surface technology from research to global production. From 2015-2022 he was Head of Central Innovation and since 2022 he has been Head of Central Technologies. Since 2008 he has been held the lecture “Tribology and Surface Technology” at the Chair of Design Technology (KTmfk) at the “Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg”, since 2016 he has been honorary professor for Design Engineering and thus shapes the connection between industry and university in research and teaching. Since 2023 he is adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, department of Indus trial and Systems Engineering Department (ISE) and member of the international advisory board at the Research Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (RIAM). In addition, he is a member of the DIHK Committee for Industry and Research as an industry representative for Middle Franconia, a member of the Executive Board of the EU Initiative for “Innovative and Advanced Materials IAM-I”, and a member of the VDMA Committee for Research and Innovation and Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board of the Leibniz Institute for Material-Oriented Technologies.
