Biography: Professor Vikram Jayaram received his BA in
Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and his PhD from Stanford
University. Following postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory
and the University of California at Santa Barbara, he joined the Indian
Institute of Science where he was chair of the Department of Materials
Engineering (2009-15), and Dean, the Division of Mechanical Sciences
(2015-21). He is presently an Honorary Professor. His research interests have
ranged over ceramics, mechanical behavior, processing and small-scale mechanical testing. His
current ongoing programmes in which he collaborates extensively with Prof. Praveen Kumar and Pratt & Whitney R&D Centre focus on the use of cantilevers
to measure creep in small samples. He teaches courses on fracture at
the Masters level and one on functional
