Welcome to the Department of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science.
While you could take a virtual tour by browsing through the links, we have put together a page for current and prospective students, and another on the mechanisms through which our Department interacts with industries.
Here are a few highlights for the year 2014:
- The Department has over 100 PhD scholars, and about 30 masters students (ME Class of 2014, ME Class of 2015). It also runs, together with the Materials Research Centre, the Materials Stream in the Institute’s undergraduate program; two batches (Class of 2015 and Class of 2016) have joined the Materials community so far.
- In November 2012, the Department launched the K.P. Abraham Memorial Fund with a goal of raising Rs. 2 crores which will serve the twin objectives of partially equipping laboratories in our new building and of endowing a visiting faculty chair. We have already received contributions from our alumni and well wishers.
- The Department will soon have a new 4-story building with about 25,000 square feet of space for laboratories, offices and a 100-seat seminar hall.
