Welcome to my website and the website of the

Deformation Mechanisms and Modeling Group

Hi, I am an Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science. My areas of interest are kinetics of plastic deformation in metallic systems, electron microscopy, dislocation theory, tribology and computational materials science.

Our research group currently has 6 PhD students (6 full time and 1 external), 1 ME student and 3 project assistants. The broad goal of our research is to understand the effect of length and time scales on mechanisms of plasticity and to incorporate this knowledge in physically-based models. To achieve this, the tools we employ are both experimental (deformation studies and electron microscopy) and computational (atomistic and continuum methods). The current research activities broadly fall into one of the following categories: high strain-rate deformation, creep, strengthening mechanisms and tribology in metals, alloys and intermetallics.

I teach courses on crystal defects, characterization  and high strain-rate deformation. I also coordinate the first year ME labs.

Abi and I also convene the activities of the UGC Networking Center for Materials

Kindly explore the site for information on our current and past research activities, available positions in the lab, facilities, courses I teach, curriculum vitae, etc. This website is always under construction. So please check back (or not!) every now and then to see if it is any more useful. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
