Vilas Vishnu Gunjal.

Vilas completed his Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from College of Engineering Pune in year 2007. Before joining the institute for a PhD in August 2008, he was with ESSAR Steel Ltd from July 2007 to July 2008.

Currently he is working on Study of microstructure, mechanical behavior and phase stability of intermetallic eutectic alloys under the joint guidance of Prof. Chattopadhyay and Prof. Dipankar Banerjee (Department of Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Science). A short discription of his work is provided below:

"Concentrated alloys with ultra fine eutectic structure have recently attracted attention as they show excellent mechanical properties. The fine eutectic mixture can be regarded as in-situ composite. Their properties can be modified by understanding the effect of volume fraction, morphology, distribution and stability of phases. The present work will focus on the synthesis of Ni based eutectic alloys, exploration of microstructures, mechanical behavior and the study of phase stability experimentally as well as theoretically using Thermocalc/CALPHAD software."
