Surendra completed his Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Institute of Technology Rourkela in year 2007. Before joining the institute for a PhD in 2010, he was a Production engineer with HINDALCO Industries Ltd from 2007 to 2009. He finished his Ph.D. by February 2016
His thesis is titled "Improvement in high temperature strength of Al and Co alloys with L12 type coherent precipitates" under the joint guidance of Prof. Chattopadhyay and Prof. Subodh Kumar (Department of Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Science).
