Sukla completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering from Jadavpur University in year 2004 followed by a short stint as a Junior Research Fellow at National Metallurgical Laboratory Jamshedpur from 2005 to 2006. Subsequently she obtained a M.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Institute of Technology Durgapur. Before joining the institute for a PhD in January 2009, she was a project assistant at the department for a short period from July 2008 to December 2008. She completed her PhD in November 2015
Her thesis was titled Improving high temperature strength of
2219 aluminium alloy by minor alloying additions under the joint guidance of Prof. Chattopadhyay and Prof. Subodh Kumar (Department of Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Science).
