Shailesh has done his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal followed by which he had a brief stint at Mahindra and Mahindra group as an Assistant Manager. In 2008, he joined the institute for a PhD.
Currently he is working on Experimental & Numerical Studies on Friction Welding of Thixocast A356 Aluminium Alloys under the joint guidance of Prof. Chattopadhyay and Prof. Pradip Dutta (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science). He completed in July 2014. His thesis was titled "Study on Friction Welding of Thixocast A356 Aluminium alloy"
