Rima did her Bachelor of Science followed by a Master of Science (Physics), both from Gauhati University, Assam. Followed by this she joined National Institute of Technology, Durgapur for a PhD which she completed in 2012. Subsequently, she was a Guest Lecturer at Department of Physics, Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata till September 2013. She was also at the Condensed Matter Physics Divison, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata from October 2013 to August 2015 as a Research Associate.

 

August 2015 onwards, she is a Research Associate at the institute. She is here as a UGC-Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellow.
