High Temperature Fatigue Behavior of Turbine Blades

The rotor and stator blades of the gas turbine engines experience arduous conditions during service with respect to stress and temperature. These operating conditions limit the life of these components because of the complex interaction of fatigue and creep at elevated temperatures. The behaviour of the material under cyclic mechanical and thermal loading will be examined. Damage mechanisms involving fatigue, creep and oxidation will be established. A constitutive model will be developed to predict the life based on these observations.
