Mechanical Behavior Group

Several people in the Dept. of Materials Eng. and in associated departments work in the broad area of mechanical behavior of materials. Within the department, this includes the research groups of Prof. Atul Chokshi, Prof. Vikram Jayaram, Prof. U. Ramamurty, Prof. Subodh Kumar and Dr. Satyam Suwas

Profs K. Chattopadhyay, M. Surappa, and T.A. Abinandanan have interest in allied aspects of mechanical properties of materials. Faculty from the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Chemical Engineering also have considerable expertise in mechanical properties of materials.

There is considerable research interactions via collaborations between the different faculty members. To further foster dialogue and bonhomie between the different groups, a lunch seminar series has been put in place since Aug 2007. The idea is to increase awareness of new developments in the broad area of mechanical properties.  The general format is to review in an informal manner a recent (within 3 months) journal paper.  The Journal Club meets every alternate wednesday over lunch at the Brahm Prakash Committee Room (Dept. of Materials Engineering). A group of about 30 students and faculty members constitute the journal club
