Process Metallurgy is the oldest area of metallurgy which encompasses ore dressing to pyro-hydro and electro-metallurgy. Over the years, several technological advances have taken place in these fields. However, with the demand for more tonnage of metals, economical extraction of metals in an environmental friendly way from lean and complex ores, has challenged the traditional way of extraction and opened new opportunities for innovation and research in these time tested processes.
As India continues to develop, the mineral and metal sectors would have an important role to play. In this context, it is planned to organize a two day conference on the Advances in Process Metallurgy (APM) to serve as a platform to all scientists, industries and R & D sectors to present their cutting edge research, innovation and technology in the broad area of process metallurgy.
Further, this conference would be a fitting tribute to commemorate the significant contributions made by Prof. S. SUBRAMANIAN, Department of Materials Engineering, IISc in the broad area of process metallurgy and in particular in the area of mineral beneficiation. Therefore, it is planned to have a separate session on mineral beneficiation in recognition of his significant contribution in this area.
