The Department has a long history of extensive interactions with industries through a variety of mechanisms. This engagement is facilitated through the Society for Innovation and Development (SID) for longer term R&D projects, and the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Consultancy (CSIC) for consultancy projects.
Employees in public and private sector industries and R&D labs may also register for a PhD under the Institute’s External Registration Program (ERP). Under this program, the candidate first spends a semester in the Institute to fulfill the course requirements; the research leading to the PhD or MTech (Research) degree is carried out at his/her organization under the joint guidance of an adviser from that organization and an adviser in the Department.
In addition, the Institute’s Office of Career Counseling and Placement (OCCaP) facilitates the campus recruitment efforts by a large number of firms.
